QUESTIONNAIRE:
What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
Akira considers family those whom he can freely love and they reciprocate. It doesn't matter if they are people who share his blood or not. He grew up mostly in a household with people who weren't directly related to him and it didn't take much for him to grow fond of them— to protect them no matter what. Even now that he is a Devilman, he feels much like an outcast in human society, but that doesn't stop him from having an undying fondness for humanity and devote himself to them at all costs. Akira has a lot of love to give and he finds purpose in protecting others, especially if they are people he loves or he considers family. In his series, Akira would consider the Makimura family (The parents, Miki and Tare) his family since they have always been there for him and have taken care of him. Those who take care of Akira are those considered family to him.
How do you define "failure"? How do you deal with the consequences of failure, from light to severe?
Akira has been someone who makes good grades for most of his life. It's obvious he strives for perfection and "well done" in many aspects of his life. As such, he's put a lot of pressure on himself to not fail. Failure to Akira is missing the mark of a goal, especially if it doesn't turn out the way he had expected it to go, and he instantly feels responsible and regret. Akira tends to lose his temper quite easily and often, so his usual response is to swear and insult.. sometimes break things and get physical. However, after the violence is gone, he becomes emotional. He begins to cry, he feels the regret. This is seen mostly from witnessing his mother's death and from a later canon point when he fails to protect the person he loves. He will lash out and hurt others, and in severe cases, failure can lead him to altering his personality altogether. To defend himself from feeling his regret, he might would distance himself from someone who wronged him or was affiliated with his failure or cut ties with them altogether even if he was loyal to them originally.
What is the most frightening thing you've ever done? What part of you did it test the most?
The most frightening thing that Akira has ever done is an obvious one: sacrifice his human body to his demon guest, Amon. It was a rather reckless act that was done quickly and only because Akira's best friend asked him to. That is devoted loyalty. It tested Akira's bravery and especially his trust in his friend, Ryo, for giving him the right information on how to be possessed by a demon and harness their powers. Akira had to lose all sense of reason and join a summoning party known as the Sabbath where he took part in drugs, drinking, violence and sex to bring the demonic forces into their presence.. to open their bodies up and make them a successful host. Akira did not know if Amon possessing him would kill him right away or if it would work, and the possession was terrifying event. Being chased by the demon itself is what completely emptied him of reason and allowed Amon to try and possess him. As Ryo assumed, Akira's virtuous soul was too pure for Amon to possess and the monster's spirit was slain within Akira's consciousness.
How important is loyalty to you? What does it take to earn your loyalty? What extents are you willing to go through to maintain loyalty, and respect the loyalty others might have invested in you?
Loyalty is important to Akira, but it doesn't exactly take a lot for Akira to remain loyal to people. Characters who are humans and especially harmless who give off a vibe that they need protection have his attention right away. He is a compassionate person who will feel a sense of duty to those who seem weaker than him and good people. However, Akira can be a grudge-holder and pretty quick to cut ties with someone if they have severely wronged him. His scale of how he has been wronged by who can vary, but most of the time, it does take a lot for him to become disloyal to someone he has devoted himself to. In a later canon point, Akira remains loyal to Ryo throughout the whole series until he betrays humanity, which is indirectly responsible for Miki's death. After something like that, Akira's loyalty to mankind and Ryo disappears and becomes a person unhinged; someone out for vengeance. Basically, if you hurt or kill the people he loves, he will never forgive you.
POWERS & ABILITIES:TRANSFORMATION
Obviously, Akira has an alternate form called a Devilman. He's more muscular, stronger, durable, taller and has all the supernatural qualities of a demon. Akira can transform at will (or sometimes by accident if he gets too excited) and stay in his demon form for as long as he wants. His time as Devilman will be limited at first with increased duration until he can stay in the form an unlimited amount of time.
ENHANCED SENSES
Akira has a heightened sense of smell and sight, being able to smell things that the average person may not be able too along with seeing clearly and better in darker conditions. This power is gone entirely until it comes back.
SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH, STAMINA & ENDURANCE
Akira seems to have gotten a lot stronger in both forms with his strength and endurance. He is seen jumping from buildings to buildings and punching through concrete in his human form. Likewise, he doesn't seem to stop fighting when severely injured in his demon form, not even when losing an arm or bleeding from an injury. He's a strong and solid person, but not invincible. When he arrives, he will just be a strong guy like someone who has muscular build; not anything supernatural until he gets his strength back.
HEAT BEAM / TEMPERATURE ALTERATION
This power can be used both in his devil and human form. Akira's hands warm up to direct heat in an enemy's direction. This temperature can grow so hot it can evaporate and dry up things that are cold or wet. Alternatively, Akira can alter his body temperature to a heat that can be so hot it is unbearable to someone against him. This power will be completely inaccessible at first and then come back when his powers start coming in.
LASER BEAM
A funny little power that can be accessed in both his demon and human form, Akira can shoot a laser out of his forehead, much like Superman's heat vision. The laser beam will inaccessible at first and gradually he will gain it back, starting with a limited amount of time he will use it.
REGENERATION / ENHANCED HEALING
In his demon form, Akira had a heightened healing factor. However, if he loses a limb, he must keep the limb close and intact with him in order to reattach it. He cannot simply regrow a new arm. Akira will heal like a normal human at first, then a little faster each time until he has his full power back.
FIREBREATHING
What kind of demon would he be if he couldn't breathe fire? Akira can only do this in his demon form, but the fire is especially hot and dangerous. His fire breathing will be nerfed to small sparks at first until it becomes a full flame when he receives this power back.
LIMITED TELEPATHY
He can sense other demonic presences when they are close and also talk to them telepathically. He won't have this ability at all until later in game.
FLIGHT & OTHER FEATURES
He has a large set of bat wings that can pop out of his back and retract at will. Along with wings, Akira also has sharp teeth and claws that can also be used for combat. Akira will be able to access his wings, but he will tire out quicker until his wings get stronger and can hold his full weight and fly longer distances.
* UPGRADES:
Let me know how many points it will take for Akira to fully regain each power (x amount for each one) cause I want this to be as fair as I can!
SUITABILITY:Have you ever read a manga to bizarre you had to set it down and think, what the fuck did I just read? Enter Devilman, a Go Nagai creation that is jam packed with nudity, violence, fearmongering, gore, monsters, body horror, cannibalism, the end of humanity and all around dark content with an unhappy ending that makes you question what is humanity's point and if war is really worth it.
Akira's world is on the brink of a demonic apocalypse, and he's taken from a sweet, average high school life in Japan to suddenly sacrificing his human body to a demon to regain its powers to fight against other demons that are killing humans so they can reclaim the Earth. Devilman is a gory take on a well known superhero trope of good versus evil and Akira himself has seen and been apart of a plethora of fights against demons and seen them first and foremost in all of their carnage and gore. He's not yet seen the evil and depravity in humanity to its fullest extent until a later canon point, but he is exposed to it at the end of the series when he witnesses humans turning on each other in fear and insanity.
Akira's life has been rough but not to the point of despair until a later canon point, but he, himself, has already partaken in drinking, drugs and violence to both summon his demon into his body and also keep it satisfied (mostly through violence and sex.) He's a demon halfling, after all, so there is that nature he has and wrestles with a daily basis. Hell is fitting for a demon and I think Akira will be easily giving into his demon nature moreso in a place that has it all over the place.. and he will enjoy it.
FACTION SUITABILITY:SHUTEN
Akira loves to fight. It's in his demon blood to fight, so if he is ordered to fight, he will fight. Depending on what his target is, there may be reluctance, especially if the target is a good person or he is close to them. At the end of the day, though, Akira loves fighting and he has to satisfy that desire to fight much like satisfying an appetite. He's highly competitive, so that is also a motive that could be useful in this faction. Akira grows close to those who are outside of his family blood and becomes very protective and loyal to them, so after finding his people in Shuten, he would become loyal to them. His personality is very outgoing and boisterous, so he would take to the partying lifestyle very well (also will be easy for him to party and ignore his feelings of failure if he is placed in this faction.)
TAMAMO
He's a good boy with a human nature that is shy, but ever since he melded with his demon, he's gotten more interested in sex and pleasure and living a hedonist lifestyle. Akira isn't too cunning or bright, but he has a sex appeal that could be useful in this clan. Does Jigokucho need a monster host to take monsterfuckers out on dates? Akira could warm up to that idea or even offer his body (human and monster) to satisfy his own high sex drive and others. He might be easy to pick on when first involved in this faction because of his shyness, but once he gains his confidence, this place would be suitable for him and he would be a big crowd pleaser seeing as he loves seeing other people happy from something he's directly done to them or for them.
SUTOKU
Akira is book smart, not exactly interacting with people smart, so he could handle mundane jobs well, along with information gathering. Just don't expect him to keep everything a secret; this guy is a big gossiper. He's still a chipper youth, though, and would know a lot about gaming and partaking in it himself. Akira would be a slacker in this faction, but a good worker when promised plenty of reward. However, he'd probably play pachinko on the clock.. which I guess, in some ways, would just be giving money back to this faction.
ENMA
Akira has a very strong sense of justice to the point where he's basically his own vigilante, but the only criminals he faces are those that are demons in his world. Akira acts without reason when he sees things that are unjustly and will not rest until justice is served. He has a strong moral for what is good and what is bad, and the fact he has a demon's body makes him wrestle with himself on a daily basis. His biology tells him to go out and fight, violate, bathe in blood.. but he knows that is wrong, so he resists. He loves control and having control over himself, so being in a faction that prides itself in keeping things contained would be his specialty. What he did back home was bring order to the demons that inhabited it, and by that, I meant he just killed them for doing wrong. Akira might sway from orders given to him and do what he thinks is right in his eyes rather than someone else's, but his sense of what is right and what is wrong is very on point.
